Council needs rethink on roadworks or traffic chaos could run until December

Local traffic has significantly worsened due to the latest roadworks initiated by the Labour-run Wandsworth Council at the junction of Putney Bridge Road, Lower Richmond Road, and Putney High Street.

We believe that the works which are due to run until 20th December are not urgent, are being conducted at a busy time when schools are back and can be delayed until sensible plans to mitigate the impact are in place.

Traffic and congestion in Putney has been bad ever since Hammersmith Bridge closed in 2019. Restrictions by Hammersmith & Fulham Council on the north side of the river have only added to the problem.

Whilst these do not have quick fixes, the extra traffic caused by these particular roadworks does.

Wandsworth Council can stop the roadworks and then undertake them later at a quieter time such as outside school term time and reduce the length of disruption with working and weekend and into the evening and through double shifts if necessary.

If you agree, please sign the petition and we will present it to Wandsworth Council’s traffic team.
